Sustainable Food, Agriculture and Tourism in Italy

Faculty Led International Program

Travel across Italy for 12 days to see firsthand how modern technology is reshaping the future of sustainable food, farming, and tourism. While exploring sustainable production methods for organic pasta, wine, and olive oil, you will also gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge "Agriculture 4.0" technologies, such as precision agricultural drones, IoT systems, and hydroponics. Alongside interactive farm visits and expert-led workshops, you will experience authentic Italian culture through guided tours in historic destinations including Venice, Ferrara, and Pesaro, Italy. Students from all NMSU majors are eligible and encouraged to apply!

• May 16th - May 28th, 2027
• Program Leaders: Dr. Betsy Stringam, Professor in the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management & Dr. Blair Stringam, Professor in Plant and Environmental Sciences
• All students will either take HRTM 4120: An Overview of Italian Tourism focused on Food, Wine, Art and Culture or ENVS 451 Special Topics in spring 2027 mini-semester 2. All students will be enrolled in a 1-credit UNIV 450 in Summer 2027.

Deadline to Apply: February 1, 2027

• 18 years of age or above on the start date of the program
• Good academic and disciplinary standing at NMSU
• 2.5 cumulative GPA or better at the time of application
• Sophomore standing or above at the start of the program
