Amy Miller
General Manager
Courtyard by Marriott at NMSU
Las Cruces, NM
Current Job & Responsibilities:
As the General Manager I am wholly responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Hotel. I ensure that I am doing everything I can to provide a first-class operation with excellence in guest satisfaction. I also administer and monitor policies, procedures, and services in all areas including budgets, operations, security, maintenance, staffing, as well as sales and marketing. As the leader of the hotel, it is important to lead by example, inspiring a "whatever-it-takes" guest service attitude to create team spirit and loyalty among our team members.
What I Learned From the HRTM Program:
Being able to understand the terminology, analyze and read reports, review financials, and have an overall concept of hospitality, restaurant and tourism operations before entering the workplace really helped me in my career.
What I Most Enjoy About My Career:
I chose a career in hospitality because the tourism industry always intrigued me, and travel is one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy the daily challenges that make every day unique and different. It keeps me motivated and I like that the operations are fast paced. I also enjoy working with such a great team and having the opportunity to go above and beyond for our guests.
Memorable Experience:
The first and most recent was accepting the position of General Manager at the Courtyard Marriott at NMSU. This was a partnering position with NMSU and HRTM that would allow me to give back and stay involved with my alma mater. The second would be when I was named as General Manager of the Year for La Quinta Hotels in 2008.

General Manager, Courtyard by Marriott, Las Cruces - 2018 - Current
General Manager, SpringHill Suites, Las Cruces - 2008 - 2018
Area Manager and Certified Instructor, La Quinta Hotels - 1999-2008
